Happy Valentine's day! We owe the celebration of this romantic day to Saint Valentine, a Christian martyr of the third century, and to Geoffrey Chaucer, an English poet of the 14th century.
Chaucer wrote that the birds began to pair off on the feast of St. Valentine. Subsequently, Feb. 14 became a day for sweethearts to exchange love notes and to pair off. The love notes became Valentines as we know them today.
