The Nun's Priest's Tale
Introduction:
Chaucer's story of Chauntecleer the Rooster, and his wife, Pertelote the
Hen, is first of all a fable about typical "hen-pecked" husbands, and typical
fussy wives, who like to cluck "I-told-you-so's" at their unfortunate mates.
(A fable, of course, is a story in which the main characters are animals who
represent human beings - not necessarily specific persons, but types of
