The Squire's Tale
Introduction:
The Squire's Tale is a romantic story which evokes something of the
strangeness of the East and the awesomeness of occult phenomena. It is an
unfinished story, but even the part that Chaucer left shows a prolixity, and
a curious interest in descriptions of color, form, and gesture that is well
suited to the young squire, who has been pictured as "syngynge ... or
floytynge, al the day" and "embrouded ... as it were a meede."
