The Canterbury Tales:

Summary: Chaucer stops off at the Tabard Inn on his way to Canterbury to
visit the shrine of Saint Thomas a Becket. He falls in with twenty-nine other
pilgrims, and in the famous General Prologue to the Canterbury Tales,
describes them for us in great detail. All walks of life, from the lofty
Knight to the lowly Plowman, are represented there. Under the guidance of the
innkeeper, Harry Bailly, the pilgrims are each to tell two tales on the way to
