THERE are many good reasons to brave the jam-packed M5 into North Devon and charming Appledore is right at the top of the list.

Famed as the "little white fishing village" in Charles Kingsley's seafaring novel Westward Ho!, Appledore is tucked away in the unspolit Taw-Torridge estuary.

With tiny streets full of pastelcoloured cottages and boats bobbing by the water's edge, it's a great place to relax - and offers plenty to entertain the family.
