The novel 'The Marrow of Tradition' by Charles W. Chesnutt dwells on the tradition whose source of strength is colonial racism. The work illustrates how the ruling class has always sought to perpetuate and manipulate working-class racism. It shows that the hegemony of Southern tradition is perpetuated in the fibers of white and black consciousness in the highly stratified Southern society.
