When countertenor Drew Minter performed as Cleopatra's punk kid-brother Tolomeo in Peter Sellars' production of Handel's "Julius Caesar," the contemporary staging took place in the bombed-out shell of the Beirut Hilton, rather than the canonical Egypt of Roman times.

The Sellars-inspired impersonation is one of the least characteristic in Minter's repertory. You would more likely see him in plumed helmet, bell-shaped skirt and tights moving about the stage with balletic steps and gesturing in the highly conventionalized Baroque style.
