THERE are good verifiable reasons why Filipinos should be elated at the unexpectedly robust performance of the economy in 2006.

It also goes without saying that in a capitalistic but underdeveloped economic environment, economic gains are invariably distributed unevenly to the various social classes with the bulk going to the upper classes to make them even more affluent while the trickle-down effects of growth takes eternity to reach the grassroots.
