With a theme of "Secrets of the Garden," the 126th annual New England Spring Flower Show might have materialized into a maze of peekaboo garden walls.

But John Peterson, hands-on executive director of the Massachusetts Horticultural Society, said he "made sure exhibitors did not create multiple 'Secret Gardens,' " a la Frances Hodgson Burnett's Victorian novel.
