The reissue Friday of ``A Little Princess'' _ or more to the point, the bad business it did when it was first released last May _ raises a host of questions about the future of family films, particularly the high-quality variety.

The movie, freely adapted from Frances Hodgson Burnett's novel, concerns a girl whose widowed father deposits her in a New York boarding school when he is called up for active service during World War I.

When the father is listed as missing in action, she is forced into servitude by the school's vicious headmistress, but by drawing upon her imagination ...
