There are some movie projects that are difficult to get under way because they are so expensive. ``A Little Princess'' had trouble coming to life because it was so cheap.

The movie, an adaptation of Frances Hodgson Burnett's classic children's story, has opened to rave reviews in its premiere engagements in New York and Los Angeles, before opening throughout the rest of the country this Friday.

Bereft of stars, the movie is an example of Hollywood craft and artistic conviction, a triumph of resourcefulness and inspiration.
