Sixty years ago today Cardiff Castle might have looked the same as it does now, but there was one important difference.
The gates were locked.
Whatever the talk on the street corner of splendid banquets and gleaming treasures, what went on behind the castle's menacing wooden doors was largely a mystery to the people of the city.
