Long reign the king and the queen! They're Dr. Seuss' The Cat in the Hat and Frances Hodgson Burnett's The Secret Garden.

These are the royal choices in Showcase's informal poll of readers' favorite children's books of the century, coming on the heels of Deborah Abbott's article on her choices for the 100 best (Showcase, June 20).

But E. B. White edges out Seuss and Burnett as our readers' favorite children's author, more than matching their votes with those for his three books - Charlotte's Web, Stuart Little and The Trumpet of the Swan. Here are the Top Ten: 1 and 2 (tie). The Cat in the Hat ...
