I could watch director Agnieszka Holland's big-screen version of "The Secret Garden" again and again.

The hauntingly beautiful new movie adaptation of Frances Hodgson Burnett's book about Mary Lennox, who's orphaned in India and sent to live with her morose uncle in Victorian England, has knockout performances by its young actors. It also has magical scenes with plants and animals, including deer, squirrels, birds and lambs.

An art director's dream, with lush, stunning photography, the film has been praised as entertainment for adults. But it's also accessible even to younger children. ...
