Generations of young readers have been drawn to the mysterious patch of overgrown garden at Yorkshire's Misselthwaite Manor, as described in Frances Hodgson Burnett's children's novel "The Secret Garden."
But parents should not necessarily rush their preteens to see the popular musical version of the story, onstage at Little Theatre of Alexandria. Writer Marsha Norman and composer Lucy Simon adapted the unusual story and unconventional characters into a compelling show, but it is unevenly performed here.
