In The Devil's Dictionary (1911), u.s. journalist and short story writer Ambrose Bierce defines prophecy as "the art and practice of selling one's credibility for future delivery." In Mr. President, Part 2, William Hillman credits 33rd U.S. President Harry S. Truman with saying: "There's nothing new in the world except the history you don't know." A Tamil proverb says: "Learn about the future by looking at the past."
I'd rather predict the past than the future--it's much dearer. But since this vision is about 2010, I'll use the past as a point of departure.
