In The Devil's Dictionary by Ambrose Bierce, there's a neatly damning definition of immortality: "A toy which people cry for,/And on their knees apply for,/Dispute, contend, and lie for,/And if allowed/ Would be right proud/Eternally to die for". This verse popped into my head during The Future. Andrew Harrison's first play imagines a not-too-distant world in which a biotech company has invented a drug that arrests ageing. For those who can afford it, Senexate offers the dubious gift of unending existence.
