Streets of San Francisco honor poets and artists

In all of San Francisco, there is not a street or alley named for Jack London, Dashiell Hammett, Mark Twain, Isadora Duncan, Ambrose Bierce, William Saroyan or Jack Kerouac.

Or Lawrence Ferlinghetti.

Although Ferlinghetti says he doesn't care about having a street named for himself, the famed '50s beat poet is distressed the city by the bay hadn't taken steps to remember the poets and artists who shaped its culture.

At his urging, a committee of city supervisors voted to honor 13 neglected figures by changing the names of 13 streets.
