Fond memories were evoked by Mr RR Pintle's suggestion that our fair city should celebrate its great characters with more enthusiasm.
As a child growing up in the grey, austere Gloucester of the 1940s, books were extremely important.
They were the TV, DVDs and video games of their day, bringing colour and excitement into a drab world.
One I remember with particular pleasure was my Bumper Book of Daring Deeds, which featured true tales of heroism. One story was called 'The Owl Who Saved A City'. It was about our very own Master Aesop Swiver, as mentioned by Mr Pintle.
