A seller of rare books paid 16,675 pounds (US$29,700, euro24,200) Thursday for a 15th century collection of fables by the famed storyteller Aesop.
"Lifestory and Fables," published in Italy in 1497, is one of three copies known to exist, said Dominic Winter Book Auctions, which had predicted the book would sell for between 2,000 and 3,000 pounds (US$3,560 to US$5,300, euro2,900 to euro4,400).
