    an encounter with an angel

    wasted days pacing
    chasing an unobtainable angel
    thinking 'one day maybe
i'll be graced by the shade of her
    halo once more'...
at four in the morning i saw
her before me and in all
    honestly i still don't believe
    that i wasn't dreaming
because it seemed like a vision

    serene and peaceful
    we drank australian wine
    late into the night
    before conversation turned
to a burning desire that i'd
    long considered a fiction
    which didn't have any place
    amongst the pages i'd since
    written... a fiction which
could be seen in the flash
of a smile across my features
    as i remembered long forgotten
    summer evenings that defined
the lives we find ourselves leading

i think we touched on some
    deeper meaning, a feeling of
    freedom which left me reeling
    wondering whether angels are real,
or just seem so under the golden glow
    of their own halos...

Not sure if this is a heavenly angel but sure sounds like a Victoria's Secret Angel.

"But do you really, seriously, Major Scobie," Dr. Sykes asked, "believe in hell?"
    "Oh, yes, I do."
    "In flames and torment?"
"Perhaps not quite that. They tell us it may be a permanent sense of loss."
"That sort of hell wouldn't worry me," Fellowes said.
"Perhaps you've never lost anything of importance," Scobie said.

I think you're going to have trouble writing about women or having relationships with them of any depth or substance so long as you think of them as "angels". Other than as messengers or agents of gods, I think what men often mean when they speak of a woman as an angel is that she provides them everything they want and ask for nothing in return; in other words, they're not complex, imperfect, interesting human beings.

    lol. is that so?

I rather like the romanticism of looking for an unobtainable angel, although I tend to read such poems as being repulsed by one's own imperfections before anything else.

    but I'm a b itch so I may have a biased view!

    keep writing from the heart.

    Haunted... Trust me, that description suits her down to the ground (;

Prince... Thought provoking comments, as ever. However, in this particular instance (the one that inspired the poem) I found that it was a case of her giving me exactly what i needed and nothing more. She is a close friend of mine and I love her to bits in that context, however after a long break up the affection exchanged was a wonderful remedy. I wrote a short piece of prose and referred to her as my guardian angel; I was more conscious of that meaning than any other while writing. Though, as I said, your comments are incredibly thought provoking...
