Scene One
There was one day in a gigantic city, where Boy was standing on the sidewalk with a sign, half his size, saying FREE HUGS. A few people stopped. One girl who thought it was funny stopped and hugged Boy. There was, also, a man with his girlfriend and a small child who all stopped and hugged Boy.
There was Girl, however, who saw his sign and walk his way and Boy noticed her intentions. Girl was beautiful, Boy thought, and he hoped that Girl would participate in his FREE HUGS service. Girl also thought Boy was fairly cute, quirky, and creative to come up with FREE HUGS on the corner of a big city street.
Girl finally got to Boy, “Can I have a Hug?” Girl asked.
“Well of course you can!” Boy said with a smile.
They hug, both with secret smiles and a warm feeling in the pit of their stomachs. They finished and Boy held his sign up again. ”Can I have a kiss?” Girl asked. Boy looked at her, then at his sign, then back at her, “Kisses cost extra.” Boy responds.
Girl couldn’t help but laugh to herself, she put her hand in her hoody pocket with her finger tips on her wallet. “What does it cost?” Girl asked.
Boy looked at her with a disappointed, and depressed face and responded.
”It costs a relationship.” Boy said.

Scene Two
“Is there anything I can do to help you with this?” asked Girl.
“No, there is nothing you, nor anyone else can do.” Said Boy.
Boy shimmied his toes to the edge of the cliff and looked down at the traffic below. The cars that passed appeared so small to Boy; the distance to society was far from him, both physically and emotionally. Girl grabbed Boy’s arm, “I can’t just stand here and let you do this…”
“But,” said Boy, “This has happened too many times. I need to stop the madness before the madness stops me.”
Girl tightened her grip, “This is the madness, and it’s trying to end you right now. Don’t listen to yourself! Listen to me!”
Boy swatted girls hand from his arm and almost lost his balance in the process. “No! You are the madness, and every girl before you! I have to do this to keep people like you away!”
In that instant, Boy jumped and he watched the leaves and bugs fly past his face as he fell helplessly to the ground. But something happened then that Boy didn’t intend. He started to slow down. Whether it was adrenalin, or his life being flashed before his eyes, Boy noticed all the leaves and the wind letting up, and the traffic’s speed declined without brake lights.
“This has happened before,” said a voice, “You mustn’t give up on life when love has failed you so many times. It is not life’s doing.”
Boy was frightened. Not only was he ready to die, against his will even now, but he was now hearing voices in his head. “Who are you?! Are you God?”
There was a silence and by this time Boy was completely still, and so were all objects around him. No bird, or car, or dust speck was moving. It was only him and this voice.
“God is not who I am, though I’m not precisely sure that a being of sorts exists.” Said the voice.
“Who are you?!” Boy repeated with anger.
“My name is of no importants with you. You should worry more of the instants of death right below your breath. Look above you.”
Boy turned his body as best he could to see. He saw Girl frozen, suspended high above Boy. “You see,” The voice continued, “If that’s not showing her love for you, jumping out after you like she did, then I’m frightened to see what is.”
“Just let me go,” Boy said, “I’m going to die now so there is no point of showing me this.”
“Girl ended the relationship because you were distant,” the voice continued, seemingly ignoring Boys response, “distant from her, distant from reality. You’ve been living in your own little word for too long. It’s time you share your world with others.”
“No one accepts me for who I am or how I live my life,” Said boy, “Not my family, not my friends, no body. Everyone else is ignorant and I don’t need anyone but me.”
“Contradicting yourself is not healthy. You say you don’t need anyone else, yet you insist on FREE HUGS. FREE HUGS was an invite to new love, new relationships was it not?”
“It was,” Said Boy, “but if they can't accept me then I don’t want to be with them.”
“Maybe,” said the voice, “It’s not the problem of them accepting you, but it’s you accepting them.”
“Am I going to die?” asked Boy.
“No, you will start all over again. Just like before.”
“Before?”
There was a quick flash before Boy’s eyes. Winters came and summers followed. Night became light, and soon after Boy was holding a sign half his size saying FREE HUGS.
