Hi there!

I'm in the middle of reading Zadie Smith's White Teeth which I've decided to write my final term paper on for my English seminar.

I'm considering focusing my essay on how the novel depicts the immigrant's experience in a postcolonial world. But I'm wondering (and worried) if this is still too broad.

Should I focus on the effects of colonization and the postcolonial subject's resulting struggle to define itself? Should I focus on issues of genealogy? Generational lineages, issues of race, ethnicity and how the novel complicates the idea of stable roots and identity? Issues of ideology?

Any other ideas?

If anyone is familiar with the book, or hell, if you just have some ideas and suggestions, please drop me a line. Your advice and help in this endeavor will be greatly appreciated!

Take care,
Historianic
