    Hello,
I've been poking around several fascinating posts, so I decided to register.
Would you tell me, please, which way I ought to go from here?

    Introduction I guess?
    Well, here goes.
I'm new here (very). Just joined today as a matter of fact, and thought I should probably introduce myself before charging in and posting, though I'm sure that's fun too.
My name is Jessica, though I much prefer Jessi. I am a High School Student, and I enjoy reading, writing, and especially creating my own characters, which I often like to base off of people I know or other characters I admire.
I also play club basketball, so I'm busy an awful lot.
Oh. And I am have just started writing a fantasy novel (In case I haven't said it earlier, I practically breath fantasy.), though I am only at about 90,000 words so far. Getting there.
I LOVE puzzles and picking out small details that others miss, which is why I enjoy riddles so much.
Usually I'm sarcastic and quite . . . jolly . . . to say the least, but when I am in the process of participating in something I love, I can become extremely serious.
Anyhoo, that's about all there is to me.
Oh! I almost forgot. I love Robert Jordan and am currently reading his Wheel of Time series.
Now THAT'S all about there is to me. Been looking around and love this site, hope to spend a lot of time here. =]

    Here comes my dream...

I am 30 years old.. wow.. where did it go? I have a wonderful husband and 2 great kids that I absolutely unconditionally love with all of my being.
I LOVE reading and writing.. and if I wouldn't have gotten pregnant right out of high school I would have done something in college to support that. Instead I started working to provide for my family, and only had time for the occasional book and writing a quick poem..... well until 6 months ago...
I was paralyzed from the waist down in april, and aside from my sons Football practice and therapy, I have alot of time on my hands (or sitting on my butt . So I am writing again.. and enjoying it. I wallow in my own self pity from time to time... but for the most part I am a pretty positive person and believe that me getting paralyzed got me back to me... writing....So here I am, trying to write the poem that is in my heart, and the story that has been juggling around in my head for years. . . I hope that this forum is what I need, just a little more added to my open time. Haha. I look forward to listening to your thoughts and ideas, and maybe making a few friends along the way..

I joined this forum because I like books.

That sums it all up really.
Well, there is also that my prefered genre is sci-fi/fantasy.
Here's a little anecdote: I just read The Sirens of Titan by Kurt Vonnegut today and am now reading Atlas Shrugged by Ayn Rand. Considering that one is far left wing, and the other far right, I just found it kind of surprising that both made equal amounts of sense to me.
I hope that means I'm open minded, and not that I'm an apathetic sheeple.
One last thing, I guess, I'm, uh... well I also enjoy playing music, hopefully I can turn it into a living someday.

Hey, I'm Kaj, I'm an English major and I love literature. Right now I'm really into Haruki Murakami, Richard Yates, and Proust. I love traveling and getting out, but the idea of a life spent going to the beach and reading book doesn't sound like hell to me, or even purgatory. Hoping I'll have the patience and attention span to make it through the Old King James someday

Hey everybody, I'm Alex! I'm a high school student, and I'm really into fantasy, science fiction, superheroes, and stuff like that. Well. I guess that's it. I'll be posting some stories in the previously mentioned genres, so if you're into that kind of stuff keep an eye open. Cool.

    Saying Hello

I'm new to these forums as a participant, although I have been lurking about reading the threads for quite awhile. I have to say I thoroughly enjoy the discussions here.
My reading preferences lean towards classics, sci fi, fantasy, horror and historical fiction. I've recently begun working my way through the 1001 Books to Read Before you Die, with a few modifications; I saw that there is a top 100 list suggested by members of this site and am glad to see that the two lists mirror each other. Maybe I can work a bit on both
I look forward to speaking with you all.

Hi hi! I am excited to get reading some of your stories. This should be a lot of fun. I can't wait to play more on here. I'll be posting my first story today. Kinda the beginning to a series that is always evolving. XD Thanks for reading this! Oh and I guess my style of writing tends to be kinda fantasy, sometimes horror side.

    Hi there
    so ...I'm Lady Disdain. Obviously not my real name, but you can call me that here =}

I like reading. Yup, huge revelation. To be more specific...I like reading anything that's worthwhile. Often you don't find this out until you actually start reading books, I know. Lately, I've gotten into this bad habit of leaving off books when I'm only halfway - that's mostly the YA genre, though. A lot of the paranomral crap which have been published off Twilight's backs make me do that. Which is why I don't read them anymore. Not to say that there aren't good YA books out there - there totally are; Libba Bray and David Levithan are two of my favorite YA authors, they sure know how to write, something which a lot of YA authors don't seem to know. Oh, and Melina Marchetta. She rocks my wooly socks. Otherwise I read historical fiction - huge Jane Austen fan, trying to finish Mansfield Park, the last books out of hers for me to read. Also love Jane Eyre. I love classics - the idea that certains books have had been able to stand the test of time, to me, is amazing. It is my dream that I also write something like that. This is why I love Shakespeare - I think he was a genius.

I also love satires - anything that makes fun of people, our habits, our pop culture. So if you know of any books that do this, pls recommend some I also love thrillers, mind-bending novels, things that look into the darker side of humanity - things like Poe's. I love Mr. Poe. A lot of my writing is similar to his - or is inspired by his, I should say. Let's not get too presumptuous.

I love Beatrice off Much Ado About Nothing - hence my user name.

I am a student doing a science and arts degree - torn between love of english and reluctance to rely on an english degree alone. Plus some other, boring factors. But embarking on this English degree has introduced me to a lot of new literature.

I have a long list of classics that I wish to finish before I die. The one I recently finished was A Tale of Two Cities which pissed me off to no end. Well, actually, the character, Lucy Manette pissed me off to no end. Sydeny Carton, I love you.

I can be classified as the girl who doesn't love Mr. Darcy, but Mr. Rochester. He's the official bad boy of literature. Drool.

I can also be classified as a mild feminist - not one of the angry ones (mostly). I hate double standards. I hate hypocrisy, though it abounds.

I will read anything except science fiction. But I probably shouldn't shun them, but we humans always do what we shouldn't so I am, of course, off the hook. Yes? =)

I am insanely bored at the moment which is why the length of this intro is proportionally and insanely long. Sorry about that. If you were bored enough, you have managed to read till these last few lines. Hope to see you ppl around.

    Greetings

I am a musician and composer who reads a lot of fiction. Among my favorite authors are William Gaddis (which you might have guessed from my screen name), Cormac McCarthy, David Mitchell, Dostoyevsky, and Hugo. I'm not sure what this forum is all about but think it is worth looking into. That's all for now.
