    1323

Andrew Harclay was hanged, drawn and quartered in London for having attempted to conclude peace with Scotland.

Harclay, a commoner whose abilities lifted him into the nobility, may have been northern England’s most able military commander during the war between Robert the Bruce of Scotland (yes, that one) and the English King Edward II.

    1315

The Great Famine of 1315–1317 begun. It was the first of several major crises to strike Northern Europe, killing millions of people over several years, and ended an extended period of prosperity. It started with heavy rain in the spring of 1315, devastating crops through 1316 until the summer of 1317. It took Europe several years to recover somewhat. The period brought terrible rates of crime and disease, as well as mass death and even cannibalism and infanticide. Its consequences were felt for many years to come.

October 13 – Pope Clement V forcibly disbands the Knights Templar. Some argue that this date is the basis for the stigma surrounding the "Friday the 13th".
