~ truth is in the heart of a secret never told ~
Warning: the following is a serious question.
Alright, I'll be frank. I have a friend who keeps being beaten up by her boyfriend, and then she keeps going back to him. I know that the reason why she keeps going back is because she's lived with him for so long and really has nowhere else to go, but she insists that she "loves him" and blah blah blah. He won't even let her out of the house except to go to work (which is where I see her), and that means that she pretty much has no friends. Even I'm really more of an aquantance. I don't want to be mean to her, but after the third time that she's come to work with bruises on her face and a limp, I'm tired of comforting her. Should I be tough with her, or should I keep doing the whole "it'll be okay" routine?

Juniper, I know how you feel. In high school, one of my closest friends was dating a guy that smacked her around and completely controlled her life. It got to the point where she wouldn't even make eye contact with me in the halls anymore. One day a friend saw her bf push her down in the middle of the street, and still she denied that he was doing anything wrong to her. We tried several approaches with her, and nothing worked. The most difficult part is watching them go through this, and knowing that the only way they'll ever leave is if they finally realize they're being hurt for themselves.
Be honest with her- don't tell her it's going to be okay, because she needs to understand that he's not going to change. At the same time, tough love isn't a great option either because you run the risk that she'll cut you out of her life for "not supporting her". I always found that "you deserve better" is a good line. I'd advise not to keep putting him down, but build her up to help her see that she's worth more than how he treats her. She needs to see herself as deserving real love- and hopefully she'll see that that is not what she's getting.
I'm weary with right-angles, abbreviated daylight,
Waiting for a winter to be done.
Why do I still see you in every mirrored window,
In all that I could never overcome?
Thanks C*C, I tried the "you could do better" approach, and it seemed to go over really well. I even pointed out some of the nicer regular customers that we get and told her about my boyfriend Dave, just so that she'd know that not all men are voilent douchebags. I'm going to keep hammering away at this tactic, I think I could get her to leave that guy and move back in with her mom in B.C., she's responding well to me and seems to have had enough.
Anywho, on a lighter note, I'm dying my hair a nice natural red next week. I'm going for a Nicole Kidman in Practical Magic kind of look:

Hey girls!
Back after such a long time! What with work, and adjusting to being a wife, time of my own seems to be running thin!
Anyways, planning to run away on our second honeymoon soon - a beautiful nature resort and spa on the north coast of Trinidad....dawns will be clear, and the beach will be delicious! I can't wait!
Then in July we're renting a holiday home in Tobago! I'll post some pics...if I remember to!

1) Why can't I find a cute pair of normal black sandals, non-flip flop????
2) Why is it when you see a guy with a great head of curly hair and you ask "what products do you use?" he always says "I dunno, I just put some gel in it".

I'm not so sure about those Papayahed, they don't look stable enough for a talus slope.
You might consider something more along the lines of this:
Just a thought.
