    Is Heathcliff tragic figure ?

    Do you agree that Heathcliff is a tragic figure who evokes sympathy? Give reasons in support of your answer.

    you should refer to heathcliff's past and a victim of social class consciousness.

    I think he is very tragic, he had such a harsh childhood. He was treated worse than animals and betrayed by Cathy. He only had a few joyous moments during his lifetime.

    He epitomises the brooding, sensual and cruel 'Byronic' hero. If he's not a tragic hero then I don't know who is.
