<br>Mr. Sikes’ little white dog is really a metaphor for his own evil personality. The dog, with its willingness to harm anyone on Sikes’ whim, shows the true evil of the master. Sikes himself knows that the dog is the symbol of himself and that is why he tries to drown the dog. He is really trying to run away from who he is. This is also illustrated when Sikes dies and the dog does immediately also.
I was surprised and saddened to learn Sikes' dog died. I always assumed the dog was taken to someone else.
A dog is a mans best friend so they say. Deep down Bill Sykes has only got one true friend and that's Bullseye.<br>Bullseye on the other hand has only ever known the treatment and behaviour of his master. He's probably never had a kind word or cuddle in his life, but he's still faithfull to the end.<br>I believe that the answer is very simple, the dog, like Nancy, could not baret be without Bill Sykes, his master, in life or death and unfortunaltly in this instance he chose death. I feel the dog was doing is utmost duty to his master and wouldn't leave his side even though he knew it was dangerous. I't a case of the old Titanic line "you jump, i jump"
charles dicken wrote about the many social evils of his time in the 1800's child prostitution, and slavery didn't mean a thing to anyone high class but in the poorer society it meant everything it was there way of staying alive. It put food on the table and money in the pocket not much as people still died from hunger and ill health.<br><br>bulls eye was a loyal companion to bill sykes and although bulls eye being only an animal wherever the dog was you could find bill. when the police searched for bill as he murdered nancy, they saw bulls eye and knew bill wasn't far by. he killed bulls eye so he could get away because in a sense bulls eye turned bill in. the dog led them to the murderer. He killed the dog to get away.
I am Cambodian and studying Enlish. And, now I am searching for the interpreting of Oliver Twiste. It seems not to be so clear for me. the most doubtful point is "Why the author, Charle Dicken, decides to make Bull's eyes die as it is only a dog?
