the scarlet letter was the "first truly symbolic novel" I'll admit that there is a little bit of a surplus when it comes to description, but hey, that was the style and it wouldn't have been the same without it. Hawthorne knew what he was writing about. His themes in the novel are following the same trend as those in his short stories: The Minister's Black Veil and Young Goodman Brown. You have to get emersed in the novel to attain its true meaning. <Many people turn back at the sight of a long sentence or paragraph, or a big word that they don't know what means, if that's you, Hawthorne would knock your on your butt. Be prepared, its hard, but its a classic.

OMG, you people need to learn how to type or to proof-read or something. How many typing errors can be in one little paragraph? This must be a record: the least mistakes in one sentence on this page. I mean, come on. I have huge bandage on my finger and I can still hit the right keys. My grandma can type better than you people.

If you are going to provide criticism, then do so with proper grammar.

    Not!

I am in high school just like you, but i disagree totally. I liked this book. If you could open your minds to other ideas, maybe you would have enjoyed it more.

I think you should stop overrating tv, cds and trash magazines so you may be prepared to really read and understand, Probably you are too young to ujnderstand what life is about. Kids, you don't even know how to spell properly. How old are you, 8?

I think this book was really well written. The only thing is you have to be able to comprehend the words Nathanial chose to use. It really is interesting, just don't read the introduction.

You must be too young to appreciate good literature.
