I'm writing a paper for my American Lit. class and i cannot find in any book or website who he was influenced by. Please help me out!

Naturally you couldn't find any website by which he was influenced - there were none in his day.
On a more serious note, check out Chaucer. I believe using titles like "The Inn-keeper's Tale" showed influence from Chaucer. I believe he also wrote a sonnet on Chaucer.

Again, I could be wrong, but I seem to remember he did a lot of work translating Dante. I can't think of more right now. Hope this gives some leads.
