I can almost always relate to LesMis lovers like myself, but I think you are being a bit hard on Eponine. She is just a young girl in love for the first time. With parents like the Thenardiers, she probably never knew real love. I agree, Cosette is the one for Marius, but Eponine is so in love she can't see that. Well, I take that back. She can, but she can't do anything about it. Don't be so mean to the lovelorn!
I have to write this in defenc of my favourite character, Eponine. I have read the book and have performed the roles of Cosette and Eponine. I found that Eponine was just as struck by love and I have to admit that it seems that Marius thought himself a little bit to high to even notice Eponine. Cosette was an extremely favoured character and this should not bear credenc on the character of Eponine. I have to thank the musical for giving voice to the character of Eponine and for touching the soul in a way the book did not appear able to. Music, it would appear, has shown the voice which Hugo did not fully express
I have listened to the music since I was 5. I had it memorized by the time I was 7. One day my mom sat me down and told me the story, from the musical, she has never read the book. I loved the story of Jean Valjean, Javert, Marius, Cosette, Fantine and Eponine. <br>I found that the best part of the story, then, was Eponine's unrequited love for Marius. I thought Cosette was a dumb little girl who got everything. Then last year,When I was in 7th grade, I had my mom buy the book for me. I read many bits of it before sitting down and actually reading it front to back. I was in the beautiful city of Edinburgh at the time, and my family was annoyed that all I wanted to do was read, rather than see the sights of Edinburgh. <br>So, Spitz Wolf, I know exactly how it feels to be the only 7th grader who likes Victor Hugo. I made one of mu friends, who loved Dumas and classic books, read it, but she hated it. She and I still have arguments over the book and she has scared all of my other friends off of reading it. She disses it (which gets me pissed) and I think her opion was biased in the first place cause most Dumas fans don't take to Hugo, and vice versa. She and I are examples. I was extremely annoyed with "The Comte de Monte Cristo", and I have yet to finsish it.<br>Well after reading the book I loved Cosette and thought Eponine was just a melo-dramatic poor girl who needs a live instead of yearning after Marius. Sorry, but I am no longer Eponine sypathetic. She has so many other things she could do, why make herself miserable? She could take Azelma away from the Theardiers and try and find resceptable work. I know some people might say that she was too far down to due so, but I think that it is possible. Thats jsut me, I think. Also I found in the book that the whole romance between MArius and Cosette adorable sweet because of being seperated for so long. <br>I think that the musical is alright in terms of the story. Not enough Gavroche, but oh well. And too much of Eponine. And not enough Marius. I also think they should not have Marius be one of the Amis. He only goes to become one of them so he can kill himself instead of having to be seperated from Cosette. I also hate that they don't put in the link between Thenardier and Marius, because its esential to the plot. Also M. Gillenmond needs to be in there, because....because....he's a cool dude! <br>Yeah...well...you can see I have a long winded opinion of Les Mis, but that's only cause I'm obsessed.<br>
