Everybody has completley missed the whole point of the book. Sincliar was for Socialism and was trying to promote Socialism by showing what life "without it" was like.

you must have done some heavy drugs back in the 70's cause the jungle was the worst book ever...and your right j/ lo and p diddy didnt make life in America but america would be alot better if the did

Im reading the Jungle for university and as i dont like reading i found it hard to get into, but now i loveit and can hardly put it down, Sinclare was an amazing man to write about the unspeakable and those who dont like it have no sense of history or intelligence. Maybe its just you dont understand it.
you're just as ignorant as you claim your following generation is. You're stereotyping this generation according to what you see in the media. I'm not surprised that you haven't realized that your generation has a bigger impact on us than what we see on tv... you aren't doing a very good job at being a role model.
I read this book in high school in 1977. It is one of my all time favorite books! I loved this book! Some of you ignorant people amaze me. This is a portrait of what life was like for our parents and grandparents. To say that it is boring is to dishonor those who made this country what it is. This is our past. This is how we became a strong nation. This was immigrant people making a life. These are our ancestors. Read more! Learn more! Life in America did not begin with J Lo, P Diddy, Jennifer Aniston etc. etc. Please, Please read & try to understand what you take for granted.
