Cleopatra was smart in that she used her beauty to charm first Julius Caesar to prevent him from conquering her country, when he died she needed to find another way to protect her country. Antony was the solution, after Caesar died Antony went to Egypt and Cleopatra seduced him as well to avoid Roman rule because Antony was the greatest general with a lot of military influence. She did this all to protect Egypt.
