I am quite sure you are not the kind of reader D.H. Lawrence envisaged when he wrote this novel.

i Totally agree. I have to study this book for A-level. I was expecting a much better ending and quite frankly i will soon be hitting the book stores for a helping hand for the meaning of this book. Maybe i would of enjoyed it better if it wasn't so bloody depressing.

I forced myself to finish this book. I was hoping for some redeeming plot line, some sense at the end, but frankly was disappointed.... It was a real down, depressing experience. I would not read D. H. Lawrence again. He was possibly a tormented person in his own life. "Sons and Lovers" is about a young man with a terrible father and, in many ways, a mother who is even worse. She's so controlling that she dominates her son's life, seemingly motivated by jealousy of his lovers. In short, this was not a "good read."
