    Baptista

i am playing Baptista as a mother and I am stumped as to how to play the part. I have looked online but it appears the character is always a father. since women did not have that much power in that time period, how should I treat this character??

    Don't

You really should not have Baptista be a woman. That ruins the whole part of that play because that could not have happened back then and therefore couldn't go with the time period. Baptista was a man in the play and in the time period that is the only way it would have been accepted. Baptista is a man.
