actually, he was shortlisted for it, but for some reason they picked Carl Urban (sp?).. or maybe he turned it down or something
Karl Urban did a much better job than I thought he would. When that casting was announced I couldn't imagine what they were thinking but I have to say, he was a much better Bones than I thought he would be. Maybe they thought Gary was too old? I know Bones is older than the others but maybe they thought the gap would be too large?

This sentence contradicts itself - no actually it doesn't.
yeah, maybe. hehe, I must admit, I haven't even watched the movie yet. I'm only nitpicking because it annoys me when they get little things wrong, like eye colour (cf. Kirk in the movie) etc. and don't even bother to fix them by giving the actors contact lenses.

Oh, I know, it really is ridiculous that they don't try to fix something that is so easy to fix.The movie was pretty good though and that is coming from a rabid Classic Trek fan. It kind of grew on me, as the movie went on I got more comfortable with those actors in the roles and started to really enjoy it. There were some plot points I struggled with but over all, I think it was a worthwhile 'prequel'. None of them hold a candle to the original actors but I can deal with it because it's not as if they are replacing them, only filling out their back story.
