Problem linking to an external avatar

This happens when I go to the Edit Avatar page: I check the Use Custom Avatar option and then I go to Option 1 - Enter the URL to the Image on Another Website. After clicking the Save changes button I get an error message that reads "Upload failed due to failure writing temporary file".

Is the feature temporarily unavailable or is it permanent? I have tested with gif files.

It might be due to a problem with permissions or your tmp folder.

Why don't you save the image on your computer, and then upload it from there.

I tried that too, but it wouldn't work either. Do you know of a way to view the tmp folder settings and/or permissions?

I don't think that this particular forum allows users to view the tmp folder settings and/or permissions.

I would think that you should be able to upload the image from your hard drive, though.

Are you sure the file isn't too big?

I've tried that and it works with static images. When I saw Pensive's animated avatar I wanted to try a small animated gif myself, and that's what I can't upload/link.

It's only a 17 Kb, 100 x 100 pixels animated gif. I think it meets the size limits.
