    Talking

Hello everyone! This is the first forum that I've been on, but I decided that if I should pick a forum, this one looks like a good place to start.

I'm a junior in high school, and I love to read! and write, and draw....and right now it seems like the majority of my classmates don't appreciate reading (and if they do, they continuously read vapid, shallow things like Twilight or Maximum Ride, or whatever horrible novels people are reading nowadays).

I'm hoping to find other people who appreciate the good, strong literature of the past. Nobody reades Goethe anymore, or DH Lawrence, or Oscar Wilde, etc, I could go on forever. It seems the old writers have been forgotten and replaced by people like JK Rowling and Stephanie Meyer and other people...

I always love discussing the books that I'm reading, but my friends never consider reading the best stuff (they're all hyped up on Wheel of Time, Pendgragon, and The Wizard Heir).

hopefully I can get in a satisfactory amount of discussion here. sorry for such a long intro...

    love, Spyri

Hi I'm MSalah29 and I probably don't have anything as interesting as you guys have to say. Some things about me: I absolutely love literature- from poems to novels to plays. I'm currently really into Edgar Allan Poe, DH Lawerence's Women in Love and a lot of Harold Pinter plays. We're also studying Virgil's The Aeneaid which is amazingly fascinating and I can't wait to finish it. I'm going to be in my first year of university this time next year!! Can't wait!! I finally get to study just English- my passion. I also love drawing and find art a true inspiration. So yeah thats a bit about me.

    Hello!
I'm a university student in Kentucky, and although I'm majoring in dietetics, I love reading. Admittedly, what brought me to this forum was doing a search for information on a paper for class, but once I started looking around, I thought to myself "what a great community! Full of people that share my love for all things literary. I'm actually a little embarassed that my first post was asking for input on a paper, having previously sworn never to be "one of those people".
I'm looking forward to the end of the semester because that means free time for reading, and being online which means I can participate here!

Hello everyone, I'm from Sydney, Australia and have just recently completed my final year of high school and hope to commence university next year. I have a deep passion for literature and language particularly literary theory and enjoy reading and writing, but mainly writing essays. I found these forums on Google because I was actually looking for a forum just like this. I searched for, "literature forums," and this was the first link. I hope to be active on these forums and participate in discussions.

Greetings, ladies and gentlemen. I found this forum through intentional Google searching. I despise vulgarity in all of its forms and hope to find none here. I read for about two hours everyday while on the subway. Despite all the noise often accompanied with bad smell, this is arguably the best part of my day. I enjoy losing myself in a good read, preferably written centuries ago. I feel like an explorer in that person's mind, a person that, hopefully, exceeded my humble self in wisdom and intelligence.

Unlike many of you here, I've only started reading after graduating from High School. I missed out on many adventurous and "coming of age" tales that I should have been reading as a child and a teenager. However, I'm lucky to have "discovered" the world of literature. It has become the most fulfilling aspect of my life, which is otherwise an uneventful combination of work and studies with a topping of disappointment.

My favorite book is 1984, I've read it many times over and at times find myself opening it up on a random page and immediately being intellectually engrossed by it.

I'm 62 and I've been reading for fifty-seven years. For the first twenty my reading was sporadic and varied--I read more or less anything that came into my view. But as I grew older I began to limit my reading to certain authors that seemed to be worthwhile, that is, so-called "serious world writers."

My view is this: We have a certain amount of time in our life. Why waste it on reading mediocre works. Why not read the best.

I have to say that I have been searching for quite awhile for a site that is devoted to literature, and I've found it in this site. In my humble opinion, this is the best site I have found on the entire net.

    Hello

Hello everybody, I introduced myself elsewhere on this forum but I don't mind doing it again. At this moment I am the newest member of the Literature Network (I hope more will keep coming after me!) My name is Andrew and I live in Rockford, Illinois, some 100 km outside of Chicago. I am married and have two kids, two cats, and a dog. I am 45 years old and have been interested in literature since I learned to read some 40 years ago. I have books all over the house and it drives my wife nuts. My son is 13 and now seems to be becoming a bit more interested in reading (what do you expect from a 13-year-old?? he just doesn't like to read all that much, but he likes his English teacher at school and therefore gets some encouragement at school.) My daughter just turned six and is learning to read in kindergarten. She has checked out some books from the school library and has read them to me!! I am the proudest dad in the world to see her reading! Oh, and my wife loves books too, but our tastes don't overlap at all! That's it. Ask me about my favorite books and I'll talk for hours.
