Finish the short story....

Ed's childhood sweetheart (charlotte) decides to go travelling for six month. Ed wishes to go with her but considers his acting career to be more important. They decide to stay together and continue there relationship when she comes back. Once gone, his acting career takes a turn for the worse and he has no other option but to take the only job his agent has to offer him. As a clown performer. Ed begins to wonder whether he made the right choice staying behind. To make things worse the longer charlotte has been away, the more distant she has become. Less phone calls, fewer post cards till there is no contact at all. Ed continues to be naive to the fact that she may not be coming back so continues his routine and tedious work as a clown in wait for charlotte to return. On Ed's travels to work one day, Ed reads the newspaper. He gets to the dating ads and reads:

"I see you every morning, you get on the 9:18am train. You have green eyes, brown hair, etc (Basically something that completely fits Ed's description) Fancy a drink sometime?"

After reading the ad, what happens next...

I am trying to right a 15minute script for a short film that I have to direct for my university final year and I am really struggling. I was wondering if anyone has any ideas. No matter how small or big. I see the film as a dark comedy. Similar to the style of 'Amelie'. Or maybe you think i should scrap this idea all together and have a short film you'd be interested in seeing on the big screen. Any help or advice would be good.

Two Ideas:
1.) Have him respond to the ad and start talking over email / chatboard type thing... fall completely in love over the course of a couple weeks... set up a meeting... then it turns out that it's a guy.

2.) Go the more traditional route of having him meet with the admirer (a girl) and they begin to fall in love. After giving up on charlotte and committing to the new girl, charlotte returns, showing up on his doorstep while he and his new girlfriend are eating dinner. She's holding his child that she recently gave birth to.... That's really why she left in the first place.
