If this isn't sophisticated humour, I don't know what is.

The point is not that they are making jokes about philosophers (though they do in some sketches), but that they are applying postmodern and surrealist aesthetic theory to their humor.

Oops. I just started a debate about British humor.

Here's something amusing: After wandering around on the internet, I came across a little funny fact; Director Robert Altman once said in a 2000 interview that he thought Titanic and American Beauty were two of the most "dreadful movies" he's ever seen.

I find that so funny, for in my pre-Kubrick and pre-Altman years I looved Titanic, but now I just see it as a harmless though manipulative piece of melodrama. But who else but Robert Altman would come out and say that Titanic is the worst movie ever? But in all seriousnes, Altman is just the perfect person to make that kind of statement. Look at his films, they are the complete opposite of the typical big-budget multiple Oscar-winner. Too bad there's not more like him. My props to you sir for your bravery

"Typical big-budget multiple Oscar-winner" isn't a fair portrayal of James Cameron's films. Where he lacks in plot and content, he has continuously pushed the boundaries of film technology. Which is why he has a consistent record for producing the most expensive films ever made. It's difficult to look back on Titanic and realize what an amazing visual spectacle it was for its time. His movies may not be thought provoking but they push the science and capabilities of film-makers forward.

Oh of course. Believe me, Altman's opinion is not my own, even though I comend him for it at the same time. For example, I will always have a personal sentiment for The Lord of the Rings because of the fact that I grew up enthusiastically enthralled by it.

That said, special-effects are not ends in themselves, and despite the fact that Titanic is Citizen Kane when compared to something like Transformers, I don't think that an entire movie is justified by its special-effects. Either way, I don't think Robert Altman saw enough bad movies

If you are reffering to my double post, there was another spammer on here trying to sell something, and I just got fed up. The mods probably deleted him.
