That is exactly what I thought after reading the book. I reviewed other literature my English class has covered, and I realized that 99 percent of it is depressing! It is strange how so many great books have sad endings. I suppose that is what makes them great, the fact that their endings are so unexpected yet very possible. It is also true that Ethan had no good relationships. I truly enjoyed this book, though I didn't realize it until spending almost 3 hours doing answering a series of questions on it. It is deep-in the slang sense of the word.
