    Well, he is courageous. He had the courage to break his parole in order to make something out of himself. He had the courage to denounce himself in front of the court to save an innocent man from being condemned in his place. He had the courage to rescue a small child and take care of her for all of his life. He had the courage to save Javert's life on the barricade, even when he knew Javert would hunt him down. He had the courage to face up to his crimes when Javert finally caught him. He had the courage to believe in God, even after his entire world was destroyed.

    No Subject

    I love the character of Jean Valjean. I think he exemplifies great characteristics. I brought this up as a topic during a dinner party, and was asked if I found him courageous. My mind just drew a blank and I couldn't think of more than a couple reasons of why Valjean should be called courageous. If you have any suggestions, please reply. Thanks so much.
