I found the book "Age Of Innocence" an immensely interesting novel. It works on so many different levels. Each character is explored thoroughly and one can anticiapte their next move because we feel a repore with them. Newland does a 360 degree turn about on his beliefs, going from a staunch unchanging man, to a man so bored with his everyday goings on in the farce of a society that he lives in, that he prefers to live in a life of fantasy.<br>It shows how a societyand a culture can try to hold on to their norms and values even though the world around them is changing for the better. The tone of the book was sometimes Newlwnds voice, at other times i noticed the voice of edith wharton coming in. Her use of hidden sarcasm and irony provided great amusement. This book is based on a real society that did exist.
