If you're talking about philosophical fiction, then that's something that's quite old and has been around forever. Actually, basically all writings are philosophical in one way or another.
The Moments of Dominion
That happen on the Soul
And leave it with a Discontent
Too exquisite — to tell —

Sartre and Nietzsche are examples of great philosophers who wrote down their philosophies through fiction. Both excellent authors. I wouldn't say it's a new genre at all.
Camus as well.
Of course Leo Tolstoy is a writer whose novels characterize fusions of philosophy and fiction and no goes unlearned or untaught once he goes through his masterpieces like Resurrection, War and Peace.
Another great writer of note today is Dostoevsky whose books are really great philosophical treatises and he too was unbearable in point of fact, a matchless writer.
In fact all great fictions are suffused with philosophies.
“Those who seek to satisfy the mind of man by hampering it with ceremonies and music and affecting charity and devotion have lost their original nature””
“If water derives lucidity from stillness, how much more the faculties of the mind! The mind of the sage, being in repose, becomes the mirror of the universe, the speculum of all creation.
Miguel de Unamuno
Vanitas vanitatum, dixit Ecclesiastes, vanitas vanitatum, et omnia vanitas.
Yo sé quién soy, y sé que puedo ser no sólo los que he dicho. - Don Quixote
Alex Mero is a great storyteller who still reminds people today of the mysteries of life. His remarkable slow-pace stories will not appeal to everyone but will certainly touch those who are willing to read with their hearts. His optimism and philosophy surmount the these days popular naturalistic, pessimistic and nihilistic tendencies. Alex’s urge to unconditionally help others out in seeking their true purpose and so many other qualities make him a great person as well as a worthy candidate to bring back a sense of wonder in this world and to have all his dreams fulfilled.
Some day, that'll be me (started my first novel already).
Now (a bit more) serious: Most literary fiction is pretty philosophical. The classics are philosophical. And yeah, Dostoevsky is probably the master in that field, but there are others.

Sartre, Camus, Dostoevsky, Jostein Gaarder to name a few.
