I think that the ballroom dances on SYTYCD:US are not that good because there are so few partner dancers in the Top 20. The show seems to favour contemporary dancers, and ignores ballroom/Latin/partner and hip hop dancers. Most of the hip hop and partner dancers that they do cast are cut before the Top 10, resulting in mediocre dances in those styles.

I do remember one hip hop dancer that I thought was very good, he's the one that designs his outfits. He's a natural. I was disappointed when he was voted down but not surprised. They seem to dismiss hip hop, maybe because they consider it street dancing? They did keep Ivan from Season 2 in the top 10. He has a few tricks that set him apart from the others, if you remember, that gliding thing with his sneakers.
"But do you really, seriously, Major Scobie," Dr. Sykes asked, "believe in hell?"
"In flames and torment?"
"Perhaps not quite that. They tell us it may be a permanent sense of loss."
"That sort of hell wouldn't worry me," Fellowes said.
"Perhaps you've never lost anything of importance," Scobie said.

The only time that hip hop had a significant presence was in Season 4, where there were four hip hop specialists in the Top 20, and three dancers who had cross-training in hip hop. I think the focus on hip hop in that season was because Nigel was mad that Shane Sparks left SYTYCD to judge America's Best Dance Crew.

Yes, it's a show that focuses on hip hop dance. Dance crews compete for a $100K prize. Shane Sparks is one of the judges. Hok, Dominic, and Ryan from SYTYCD competed last season with their crew, QUEST, and they won.

^ I don't remember his name. But he's a damn good hip hop dancer. He was eliminated in the middle of the series. He makes his own costumes. Kind of tall and lanky...

I liked Hok during his season. I thought that he did a great job in "The Chairman's Waltz".

^ This season. He made it through a few week. He probably missed the Top Ten which makes the tours. I wanted to attend one for Season 2, but the show was sold out!

In other news, I just saw the cast list for DWTS9, and I was quite underwhelmed. Yes, I know I watch too many dance shows
