Summaries? Why? Don't want to actually read the book?

Your visitor who asks for chapter summaries is asking for post modernity out of post Romantic discourse.

I suspect that the reason why anyone would want a prepackaged, pre-read, pre-digested summary is because they cannot be bothered to read the book, or do not possess the capability to interpret what they read. such people are the sad types who believe what they read in the papers. Or even watch the news on TV instead.
Laziness is no route to knowledge.

maybe he or she just wants to read the summaries as a way to review. did you ever think of that? the novel IS 67 chapters long AND very intricate. maybe it's easier to remind one's self what the beginning of the book is on without re-reading the whole thing. and all i have to say is AMEN TOM! doug is just insecure.

    Bleak House

There are no summaries online. So, as soon as I finish writing this 24 page paper about BH, I will create a website that has all sorts of helpful information - like character sheets, and plotlines, and chapter by chapter summaries so we will never have to fight the long, long bleak battle alone again!!!

Gwen, I can't wait until you have created a site for your 24 page paper. I will definitely have a look.

And all of you, stop arguing.

Although I admit that Doug is insecure...

So, are there any chapter summaries out there? I am reading the book and would find it very helpful to have this as an aide memoire because as someone points out, the book is 67 chapters long.

Doug, you are a real stroker. If I had written what you have to say and saw it again now, I would be turning pink with embarassment. I hope for your sake you were about 16 when you wrote it...maybe you have grown up now.

This site is wonderful, yet it doesnt bring an end to my quest for Bleak House sites. I would like to see chapter summaries of the novel. I can't find them anywhere on the web. Be different. Have something that no one else has. Create summaries of the individual chapters of Bleak House so that those who need them can come to this site and look no further!

    Smile Chapter Summaries

The Cliff Notes chapter summaries for Bleak House can be found here:http://www.cliffsnotes.com/WileyCDA/LitNote/id-40.html

I came across them when I wanted to check up on a few details as I've been watching the recent brilliant BBC dramatization. It is a really fine series and if anyone hasn't seen it, please do yourself a favour and get hold of a copy of it. It is not to be missed.

I too have been searching the web in an effort to understand Bleak House.
I am reading it currently but have to confess that I am finding it extremely hard to follow. It is well written and enjoyable at times, but following the large amount of characters is at times confusing for me. Chapter summaries would help me greatly.

    I've read it!

I finished Bleak House today and I have to say that it was worth sticking with it.
Cliff's notes did help me at times in the early chapters because the amount of characters was a bit confusing, but in the latter stages it all comes together and I really enjoyed it in the end.

    Chapter summaries/character list

Just a thanks for the Cliffs notes info. I have found this site very interesting and helpful, but also appreciate the detail of the Cliffs notes site. Due to life intervening(2 kids, part time job, husband, dog, etc., etc.) and times of just needing a break from it, I have been reading Bleak House somewhat erratically. It is obviously not ideal to read a book with this many characters in it this way, so it is very helpful to know that I have somewhere to turn when needed. I am enjoying it( on Chapter 25) and hope to get focused to get done before summer!! I would have enjoyed reading this while in school to get the benefits of a professor and student interaction so I appreciate being able to get some of that from the web.
