I guess I should. But to be honest: it is not the cheapest cars that catch my eye ... Not necessarily the most expensive either I do hope that if I ever would be able to afford a car, I will buy one that is not too "slurpy" on the benzine/gas/diesel. Even if that means not getting my dream car...

None of my close male friends have cars, none of them even claim to like cars, most of them are happily tottering around on broken down bicycles, harassing Copenhagen drivers. Even when I try, I cannot think of a male friend who ever talks about cars....

Car of my dreams is a Citroën Deux Cheveaux.

Once it's impossible to have one in Brasil (waaaaaay too expensive, besides, there's this ecological problem ...), I'd have a Vespa (motorcycle, we call it "lambreta", in Portuguese, which is a small moto ... 'Don't know if there's a different term in English for this).


[But, honestly, I don't think I'll ever wish to contribute to put more smoke in our already sufferable atmosphere ...]

Coming to think of it, none I know have either. And maybe one or two of my "further away" friends . I guess it is just easier to have a bike in the city No place to park the car any ways... Or money for patrol for that matter.
They do talk about it though But always because we see a nice car from the window or because we're watching Top Gear or a movie with an awesome car in it. It just ask for some comments and an argument about whether the car is nice or not. It might be that I often start these discussions though

And Tim, I think that is an admirable view on it. I have to admit though - I like driving so much, I think I am able to just search for a job that would make a car obligatory... It is just so much fun!
I hope technology will soon find a way to make a car with zero pollution (utopia )

BTW, we just say Vespa Brand is enough to get the message across

Well, that does depend on how that electricity is generated.

But then again, zero polution will be very optimistic - as in the making of a car already quite some pollution is involved

But indeed, let us hope. And keep our minds open, who knows we'll just find a solution

And such (less polution) can only make it more fun to drive a car

oh, and my science fiction doesn't have flying cars either ...

(cause I usually keep saying what my science fiction's about, once I'm publishing in Portuguese, in my blog, & therefore, not everyone can read it ...)

So, it's about a journey toward Jupiterian (name of Europa, Jupiter's moon), taking one of the magistrates to the crowning of the Princess of the House Rubia (Kings of Jupiter), during the period of the peace.

And I work without:

~ laser weaponry
~ light-speed/warp/jump
~ alien life
~ artificial gravity (except epicentric)

& I have no flying cars ... (However I LOVE _Back to the future_, _Blade Runner_ and _The Fifth Element_.)

And I take a great deal of care about using artificial intelligence ...

It's my "sci-fi". I try to make it the least "fi" as possible, so as to imagine what mankind might come to actually live, if we do conquer the Solar system ...

Well, I have to say that I can not read Portuguese. That being said, if you would ever implement cars in your stories, not necessaraly flying ones, please - still allow the people to steer themselves! If you make it all automatic it might be much safer, but it would totally take the fun out of it.

I do not even think I would like an automatic (you know, not being allowed to change the gears manually). Not that I ever tried one... I know it might be better for the environment, as I am not the best gear shifter, but I imagine it would be so boring...

Ah, I love Top Gear too! <3 My friends think I'm crazy, but they just don't know what they're missing. Actually I've managed to convert a few of them into Top Gear fans too

Well, with an instructor like that you must be a natural to get your license!

I had a very good instructor, or well - I trusted him and he kept his patience with me. He did not answer my questions directly, but that was because I always asked them at moments when I did something wrong and he had to correct me first ... Safe to say, I am not a natural - and I hate that, as I like driving so much and would like to proof everybody wrong when they say girls can not drive
Fact is, I passed my driving test because "once you relaxed and started singing along with the radio you drove OK. The moment you started to think too hard, you made mistakes as you did not respond fast enough". I am glad that made me pass (first part), and not fail (second part). I guess he was in a good mood that day

I should drive more. I think I drive a car once every 3 months! I know it's too little to keep my skills, but I do not have a car myself and no need for it either. So I only drive on special occasions. I totally forgot how to park - which makes me another perfect example of jokes about women and cars

I got my license because I was fortunate enough to drive the test with a really nice man, and he had another guy with him. As soon as I got away from my driving instructor and sat there in the car with these two men who were merrily chatting all the way through the test I could relax and did just fine (especially parking - that went really well on that occasion )

I don't get to drive very much either - I moved to another town to study about 18 months ago, and of course I don't have a car of my own (it would be a bit too expensive to maintain, being a student with very limited income). I only get to drive when I visit my parents on the weekends or holidays.

BUT - now I'm going to have a car for a week! My parents travelled to Lapland for a week, which means they don't need their cars so I can take one and keep it for a week. It will be a lovely week - I'll save 40 kilometres of walking or bicycling to school And driving the 150 kilometres to the town where I live now will be nice too - the best part of driving long distances alone is that you can sing along with the cd player

Even as a male, I have always wondered at our fascinations with cars and trucks - the faster the car, the bigger the truck, the better! I think not. Sure, I rejoice in these amazing inventions humankind has created, and think them quite amazing, but cannot see the obsession with them, the need for showing off while speeding, drifting, and other hold-my-beer-and-watch-this type of tricks. Ironic, because I come from a family of car-buffs - both men and women in my family know everything about cars and trucks, customizations, the anatomy and physiology of anything with an engine, yet I do not own one.
I think of it as a testosterone-thing - that need for thrill, whose goes faster and whose looks bigger (no pun intended), who can customize one's more, competitiveness, who drives the best, etc. Besides for women, the obvious, my testosterone exists for jogging and sprinting, baseball, and old-school video games (Sega, Nintendo, etc.).
