sometimes it occurs to me
that I should scrape away
my ever troubling heart
many a time broken
during love's cruel play,
and get for myself something
not as fragile and tender
as unbaked china or clay;
perhaps a stone will do
and make life easier and safer
against the calamities that
star-crossed lovers' face
in love's clime.
