    PICKWICK PAPERS

At the grand old age of 45 I have just read my first Dicken's novel, The Pickwick Papers. I loved it ! Some parts are a little drawn-out and the writing seems very "flowery" at times. These are minor criticisms though I found the time to read the book due to a broken leg, people say that laughter is the best medicine and PP certainly made me laughter at times ! The characters are so well drawn. It is easy to think how much pleasure Dickens had writing the book.

I just started reading it. the prose does seem verbose at times - stilted. It's something that i'm not used to, but i got through it ok, and the first chapter, while it started off boring was quite entertaining once pickwick got up to talk about his tittlebait theory, and then someone called him a humbug, but because it was said in a pickwickian sense and not in common sense, it was all ok lol. glad you liked it. hope you can run and your leg gets better

I will be 52 and have just picked up Pickwick Papers.
I feel I have missed out on real english literature.
