Hello! I stumbled across this place while looking up some Shakespeare thingums... looks quite interesting.

I'm doing a degree in English Literature (God help me, I'm a finalist), which I hope to turn into a masters, and then a doctorate. I specialise in Medieval Literature, but really like anything, apart from modern stuff (Evelyn Waugh was the last great writer, as far as I am concerned).

I'm currently reading Kormaks saga, some very random (but very enjoyable) Anglo-Norman hagiography, and The Merchant of Venice for something a little bit different.
"I should only believe in a God that would know how to dance. And when I saw my devil, I found him serious, thorough, profound, solemn: he was the spirit of gravity- through him all things fall. Not by wrath, but by laughter, do we slay. Come, let us slay the spirit of gravity!" - Nietzsche

Umm, so I am semi-studying to become a teacher of the High School English persuasion. I felt ill prepared leaving high school and entering college so I thought perhaps I should become a teacher to help point students who would usually not care about anything after high school towards something better in their life. I also believe in the power of words and writing, I use it as a therapy and believe if students can get in touch with their creativity in any way, it will make a better world...I don't know.

I also figured being a teacher would allow me to travel in the summer time and work on writing and possibly any novels that I may want to write.

    Hello

Yes... I'd go on this website a lot... so I want to write in forums too! My name is Mira, I'm going to finish my IGCSEs in a few months (I'm scared :s) then I'm going to do A-Level, go to college, get a good job, and earn some money.
And once I have enough funds I'm going to start a reading campaign to improve adult literacy rates throughout the world (it's 27% in Mali! In 2008!) putting to better use the second-hand books that people usually throw away. And then I'll make a research centre that discovers better ways to build wheelchairs and other facilities for disabled people, and also expanding their options for leisure and social activities, and then if I have time I'll start classes teaching children philosophy and political subjects, raising awareness to the world around them. But I need to pass my IGCSEs first.

    Hello,

I just joined the forum today and this is my first post. Thought I would say a hi and introduce myself, (which I promise, is very brief) - Indian by origin, a marketing professional, books have been my best friends for as long as I can remember and am constantly on the search for an excuse to travel. Hope to share some good literature from around the world here.

Hi everyone, pleased to meet you all! x

Having read through some of the intros, I may be out my depth but hopefully gain a deeper understanding of the books Im reading. My background is nursing and in any spare time I just love getting lost in a good book.

    Hello everyone,
Today seems to be the day that I finally move from stalker status (or 'guest') to a forum member. I look forward to being more involved with the site. ...The pleasure is mine.

    Hi everybody!
I love literature very much, books have been my best friend since... since I was near 4 years old. So, in this forum I want to discuss different books with other people. Most of all I like to read novels and Russian poems.
I am from Russia and I am sorry of my, maybe sometimes, bad english)

Welcome Jassica! I love your language, I study it at university. Whom is the phrase in you signature?
    Quel che l'uom vede,
    Amor gli fa invisibile,
    e l'invisibile
    fa vedere Amor...

    Me

    Hi folks

I found this forum a couple of weeks ago, I've been reading the Steinbeck thread and just couldn't resist the temptation any longer.

I'm from Sweden and for the moment I'm studying English D, meaning its my fourth term of English studies and the first term only dealing with English literature.

I'll be seeing you in the discussions.

    Håkan Tallgren
